The new Special Economic Zones (SEZ) are strategically located in Riyadh, Jazan, Ras al-Khair, and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), north of Jeddah, and provide tremendous opportunities for developing the local economy, creating jobs, and localizing industries. Nabil Khoja, Secretary General of the Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority (ECZA), told Al Eqtisadiah that the launch of the four (4) new Special Economic Zones (SEZ) is just the beginning of a long-term program aimed at launching more regions in the coming years … that will increase the Kingdom’s competitiveness and place it among the most attractive countries for global investment.

And that these areas have succeeded in attracting a number of major global investors. He pointed out that investing in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) provides attractive economic incentives through specially designed packages to enable international companies to achieve their goals. Attractive economic stimulus packages include reductions in corporate income tax, exemptions from withholding tax, deferred customs duties on imported goods, exemption from operating fees for employees and their family members, and exemptions from value-added tax (VAT). And benefit from the national initiative for global supply chains launched by the Crown Prince through incentives amounting to $2.7 billion.

Special Economic Zones (SEZ) support a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, raising employment rates and providing quality job opportunities with remunerative returns. And that these areas create tens of thousands of direct and indirect jobs until 2040, and the huge investments will contribute to meeting the aspirations of Saudi youth in the growth of the national economy.

The number of logistics zones is two (2) in 2020, and the plan to have sixty (60) logistics zones in 2030.

The expected investments of the Special Economic and Logistics Zones in the Kingdom are about $147 billion, and $560 million initially disbursed to support the infrastructure of these strategic projects

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Transport and Logistics Services, launched the master plan for Logistics Zones…. It aims to diversify the local economy and enhance the Kingdom’s position as a leading investment destination and Logistics Zones Globally…. to support economic growth and develop local, regional and international connectivity to international trade networks, and to strengthen partnership with the private sector and expand job opportunities…..

The master plan for Logistics Zones includes (59) Zones with a total area of (100) million square meters, including (12) Logistics Zones for the Riyadh region, (12) for the Makkah region, (17) for the Eastern region, and (18) for the rest of the Kingdom’s regions. Work is currently underway in (21) Zones, and all zones will be completed by 2030. The Zones will enable the export of Saudi products with high efficiency …. and provide high traceability …. after the launch of the “Unified Logistics License” and granting the license to more than (1500) ) logistics companies, and the launch of the “Two-Hours Clearance” initiative

Last April, the Kingdom achieved a new achievement and jumped (17) ranks globally in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) issued by the World Bank, as it advanced to the 38th place among (160) countries in the Logistics Efficiency Index…. It included the Special Integrated Logistics Zone (SILZ) at King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, and the announcement of Apple as the first international investor in it, and it aims to reach the list of the best (10) countries within the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) in 2030.
